Over a year ago I had the site customised for visitors who used a mobile phone like Fiona's mum. At Easter she told us that it was no longer working for her.
Sure enough, some changes in recent releases of WordPress meant that the solution I had installed was invalidated but we never knew it.
Today I installed a more modern thingymajig. It seems to work OK but I need to spend another day tweaking it. I am unable to show the menu and the link to the forum.
If you normally access the site from a mobile device you may see a difference. At the bottom of the home page (on your device) you should see a link that says "Standard". That reverts to the normal look and feel.

It's fine on my phone too (LG KM900 Arena).
One thing I've noticed though Danny....and it used to happen before you did whatever you did, not just the last couple of days since.....sometimes, I'd guess about every 2nd or 3rd time I access the forum on my phone, it just switches off!! My phone, that is. I access the forum ok, then the instant I click on a post - any post - that's it, the phone dies (it switches itself back on straight away). It only happens on this forum, not on any other site. I have no idea whether it's something to do with the forum, or with my phone. Strange that it's only a problem with this particular forum, though
Any ideas?

I've just tried it on our android tablet and it initially loads up with the desktop version of the forum (which works ok). When I switch to the mobile version, it breaks a single page into multiple 'pages' so I have to go to click through a dozen 'pages' to read a single page of posts... So for the tablet, the desktop version of the site is better. I suppose it's similar for a smartphone.

Does it work on a Kindle? I haven't tried recently, but I will try it when I visit daughter next weekend.

I just tried it on my cheapo android tablet. I found the mobile version impossible to navigate.
I was hoping it would work for me as although the normal web version loads fine, when try to make a post my tablet freezes under the strain. (The fault of the tablet, not the site, methinks.) By the time I get around to turning the PC on I've forgotten what I wanted to say.

I took out a free trial subscription to a service that analyses the site stats for mobile users. The results to date are interesting " especially for statto junkies
14% of our site traffic comes from mobile devices.
That was 1,600 visitors out of approx 11,500 in the trial period
47 different mobile devices were detected
92% are Touchscreen
57% are not phones (iPad I guess)
A whopping 85% of them are Apple
55% Apple iPad
20% Apple iPhone 4
6% Apple iPhone 3GS
3% Apple iPod touch
1% Apple iPhone 2G/3G
Screen resolution
55% 1024 x 768 (iPad I guess)
20% 640 x 960
11% 320 x 480
5% 480 x 800
So I am revising my ideas about special options for these. Maybe the full web site display is best, and ignore the 9% who use the small mobile phone screens. That includes Fiona's mum so we had better buy her a tablet or something I guess.
