Belated Happy Birthday

guinea and mashWe’d been looking forward to the blog’s birthday, crossing off the days as we sailed into August. This morning I realised that we’d missed it. Yesterday the blog was two years old.

So tonight we raised two large glasses of sloe vodka to the blog. It has bought us so much joy.

My mum always says that when she wakes on my birthday she lies in bed and thinks of watching the dawn break on the morning that I was born. She tells me how happy she was – a new life sleeping beside her.

Our blog snoozes beside us at night and has taken us on an amazing journey over the past two years. Writing every day I’m always searching for new material. I look and listen closely and enjoy a much more reflective life.

The Cottage Smallholder blog was born on a cold, wet August weekend. It has had a massive impact on our lives.

Thank you for reading this blog.

It encourages us to grow.

Congratulations Fiona on the great work. I happily visit your blog daily and so love being able to catch a glimpse of the Cambridgeshire/ Suffolk countryside (which was part of my youth too — growing up in Hertfordshire and having relatives in Suffolk).

Reading about your garden and the chickens and the minpins and the other creatures and plants who inhabit it brings to mind Beatrix Potter or A.A. Milne.

Thanks for the stories and above all for the atmosphere.

A very Happy Birthday to all the members of The Cottage Smallholder cast: feathered, furry and human. I love this site and look forward to more.

  3. Hi Fiona ~ Happy Birthday Cottage Smallholder!
I enjoy the reading. You have a wonderful talent for making everyday life seem so special and such a variety of topics that you keep it all so interesting. I love to come by and see what you’re up to!

I also appreciate the garden advise you’ve given to me

  4. Thank you. Always enjoyable.

  5. Hello Fiona and Happy, Happy Birthday!

I have loved reading the tales of the goings on in your life and how so many people ask for advice on such a wide range of subjects. The Cottage Smallholder has been the first place I go when I fire up my computer for many months now. So I raise an imaginary glass to you (it is only 10 am)in the hope that you will continue writing for many more years. The Cottage Smallholder, Cheers!

  6. I am only a recent discoverer of your blog, but I am already enthralled and inspired. I have my own blog (not quite as enthralling), but I recognise the nice feeling you get from writing it. For me, it’s a form of therapy; sharing my woes (very rare) or happinesses.

Am loving the recipes most of all… the vegetarian bake thing is appearing on my menu this weekend!

Congratulations! I raise a glass to you and your wonderful writing; long may it continue. This has been my favourite daily blog read since I discovered it.

  8. Congrats and best wishes for your third and many years after that.
We love reading the blog, it makes you seem much closer as you share your daily activities, recipes etc. You inform and amuse!
It is amazing too, how we can identify with so much of what you write about, even from this side of the world.
The day would be duller without your daily post – keep it up please. XX

I love you blog. It always feels kind of relaxing somehow.

  10. I am so glad that I found your blog at the beginning of this year. I visit you every day and always find something interesting and entertaining. I love the stories about the MinPins and chickens etc and am inspired by your money-saving ideas and budgets. I also love the flower arrangement each month.

It took me ages before I dared to add my comments but you always reply and make me feel welcome.

Please keep writing – I would really miss you as I’m sure many others would also.

Best wishes for your third year x
